Blacks and Hispanics More Likely to Use Twitter Than Whites

Thirteen percent of online adults in the U.S. now use Twitter, says Pew.

Thirteen percent of online adults in the U.S. now make use of Twitter, according to a survey report issued by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, up from the 8 percent of users that reported doing so in November 2010.

The survey, which polled a total of 2,277 representative respondents, also found that African Americans and Hispanics are far more likely to use the service than white users, relatively speaking. A full 25 percent of Black, non-Hispanic Internet users reported using the service, compared to 19 percent of Hispanic users and 9 percent of white, non-Hispanic users.

The research also highlighted the number of users accessing the social network through mobile phones. Fifty-four percent of Twitter users reported doing so.
