Gay Net Users Are Likely to be Male

The typical gay Internet user is male and between 25 and 44 years old, according to a study conducted by Greenfield Online and Spare Parts Inc.
At $57,000 the average annual income of the gay Internet user is slightly higher than that of the general user, which GVU estimates at $52,000.
The study found that lesbians and gays included in the survey spend an average of three hours per day using the Internet. This does not include time spent using email. Eighty percent of those surveyed said they own a PC, 20 percent plan to buy a new computer in the next six months.
In keeping with general trends, the study found that significantly more gay men than women shop online. The study was conducted in July 1998 and the findings are based on an in-depth online survey of 948 gay Internet users.
