Italy's Online Population

Italy's Online Population

There are 10.7 million Italians with Internet access, according to a report from Between ICT Brokers.

This represents a 7 percent increase from March of 2000, and a 25 percent increase from September of 1999. According to the report, there should be 15.3 million Italians online by spring of 2001.

About 5.6 million Italian Internet users go online at least once a week, 10 percent more than in March and 75 percent more than in September.

The growth in user numbers has been spurred by the large numbers of women, over 55s, and unemployed that have gone online since September of 1999. There are also more users in the more disadvantaged southern part of Italy.
