Internet audience measurement by Media Metrix has found that some of the Internet's biggest names, Yahoo!, MSN, ICQ, GeoCities, and AOL are big names no matter where in the world you look.

Internet audience measurement by Media Metrix has found that some of the Internet’s biggest names, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, GeoCities, and AOL are big names no matter where in the world you look.

Globally, Web users spent a monthly average of 5.2 hours online, spread over 9.6 days each month. Canadians spend the most time online, with an average of 7.5 hours spread over 11.2 days. The French spent the least time online, with an average of 3.4 hours spread over 8.6 days.

CANADA

The top global domain in Canada for December 1999 is Yahoo with more than 4 million unique visitors, and the top Canadian site originating in Canada is Sympatico.ca with 2.4 million unique visitors. The male to female ratio of Internet users in Canada is close to even, with men 18 years old and over comprising 41.5 percent and women 36.8 percent. Canadian children and teenagers also have a significant presence on the Internet, comprising 21.7 percent overall.

EUROPE (UK, Germany, and France)

Portals, ISPs, and Services are the most visited sites and online services in Europe, with more than 50 percent of all home users visiting one of these three categories.

AUSTRALIA

The Top 25 global domains visited by Australians include a mixture of Australian and US multi-national brands, such as ninemsn/MSN, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL, with ICQ and Microsoft instant messenger services ranking prominently among the big-name portals and sites.
