Watchdog bans Renault's new Va Va Voom video featuring burlesque dancers

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled that the new YouTube advert, which features women in their underwear, objectifies women, and has banned it as a result.

After receiving a complaint that Renault’s new Va Va Voom campaign YouTube ad is sexist and objectifies women, The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned the ad.

A Parisian theme saw the ad feature bustling streets, romance, the Eiffel tower, and Moulin-Rouge style dancers. However, there were concerns surrounding the objectification of the dancers bodies and their over-sexualised portrayal.

We considered that the ad objectified the dancers by portraying them as sexual objects and that it was therefore likely to cause serious or widespread offence,” the watchdog concluded.
