A much-loved hero from one of the most quoted films of all times, ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy’, has publicly endorsed Chrysler’s new 2014 Dodge Durango. That’s right guys, Ron’s back, and he’s never looked so good.
The car manufacturer decided to get some celebrity help to promote the high-tech features of their latest model, and Will Ferrell’s famous character from ‘Anchorman’ certainly brings that to the brand in the latest TV ads and short online films released last week.
In one of the ads, Burgundy teases a horse after comparing it to the powerful engine a Durango boasts: “This thing is literally 360 more times powerful than you! Look at you, you’re worthless,” before challenging the animal to a staring contest. In another, he chases away an elegant pair of dancers: “Get out of here, you dumb dancers… Bunch of dirty dancers. There’s nothing that gets me more ticked off is [sic] a bunch of dirty, irresponsible dancers, dancing in front of my Dodge Durango!”

Devised by Ferrell, his production company Funny or Die, Paramount and Chrysler’s ad agency, Wieden+Kennedy, the agreed deal asked for six ads to be created, but the team reportedly managed to film a staggering 70 in two days.
Some of the more conservative ads aimed at a mass audience aired in the US last weekend, with the rest due to be released on Dodge’s YouTube Channel, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr. As well as this, Ferrell’s FunnyorDie.com will host a number of the clips.
“People think they already know the Durango, so then you have to be twice as engaging in a marketing campaign,” Olivier Francois, Chrysler’s chief marketing officer, reported USA Today. “What could be more engaging and entertaining … than to explain all of the new technology and features through the eyes of a guy who comes from the ’70s?”
The ads are sure to get excitement building for the film’s sequel, ‘Anchorman: 2, The Legend Continues,’ which is due to hit cinemas from December 20th.
