Heinz has found itself at the centre of a PR disaster, after receiving a complaint from a consumer in Germany who claims the QR code on his bottle of ketchup linked to a hardcore porn site.

Heinz has found itself at the centre of a PR disaster, after receiving a complaint from a consumer in Germany who claims the QR code on his bottle of ketchup linked to a hardcore porn site.

How? Heinz ran a promotion on bottles between 2012 and 2014 with a QR code, the URL of which a German porn site has since taken over.

According to a German news site, Heinz apologised to the consumer on Facebook and said: “We really regret the event very much and we’re happy to take your suggestions for how we implement future campaigns on board.”
