John Lewis ad shoots straight to the top of the viral charts
Though having only being in the public domain for a week, the Bear and the Hare ad from retail giant John Lewis has already been viewed almost 6.5 million times and shared nearly 650,000 times on Facebook according to Unruly Media, and has fought off competition from Samsung and Playstation's latest ads to land the number one spot.

In its first 24 hours, Hotwire and 33 Digital revealed stats that showed that the Bear and the Hare ad was tweeted 49,152, a massive increase on last year which saw 21,027 mentions in the same time frame. Reactions weren’t quite as positive as the beloved snowman ad of 2012 however, with 84% positive/neutral reaction compared to the Snowman’s impressive 96% positive/neutral.
Last year’s ad certainly set the bar high, but the increasing popularity of Twitter and Facebook has led many more consumers to take interest in the heartwarming ads, and share them via the social media site they are initially released onto.
Samsung’s latest promotion ad for their new Galaxy 11 came in a (not-so) close second with 1.5 million views since being released on the 11th November, and features footballer Leo Messi being handed the responsibility to save the world by playing football against aliens. Naturally.

Do aliens play football? We’re not really sure, but either way the concept seems to have been pretty popular with football and tech fans alike, amassing almost 90,000 Facebook shares so far and coming a respectable second to John Lewis’ viral monster of a Christmas promo. Captain England, we salute you.
Other ads released this week and already an impressing in the charts include Playstation latest offering, shown below:
And an epic ad care of Volvo Trucks, featuring the main man that is Vann Damme:
As more and more brands and agencies seek to make the most of social video advertising, consumers are embracing their creative video concepts and helping ensure companies utilising video shoot straight to the top of the viral charts and spread across social media sites like fire.
