An athlete-inspired sunscreen brand has enlisted sunshine to heat up its fledgling sales.
Zealios is to launch an online app – that heats up when the sun’s out – activating a digital discount coupon for its range of products.
The digital remedy was the brainchild of agency TBWA Toronto that were brought in under a tight budget to promote the brand in an innovative way.
“Zealios promotes an active outdoor lifestyle, so we wanted to create something to mirror their brand personality,” Ryan Speziale, the art director for the project, said. “That’s why we thought of using light to give an engaging experience and get people outdoors.”
The app is only accessible for android users – using the ambient light sensors built into mobile phones. Sunlight will activate a 50% discount on a 3-ounce tube.
No fear, non-android users can still take access a 20% discount by going straight to the website.
However, the powerful technology used to power the app only runs on Firefox as other browsers have yet to catch up. This didn’t stop the makers, “It was more important for us to be the first ones in with the app than to wait for the devices and browsers to catch up,” Kevin Fuller, vice president of sales and Zealios co-founder, said.
