Virgin Media has joined an ever-growing list of brands in tapping into feminist ideas to advertise products.

Virgin Media has joined an ever-growing list of brands in tapping into feminist ideas to advertise products.

In latest campaign ‘Inspire’, which advertises new broadband service Vivid, an ad shows a young girl watching women’s football on a tablet. She begins watching England footballer Steph Houghton, before her mother informs her of other ‘feminist icons’ such as Nadia Comaneci, Billie Holiday, Emmeline Pankhurst and Paloma Faith.

Kerris Bright, chief marketing officer at Virgin Media, described the ad as a “provocation”.

She said: “Virgin Media is establishing a new standard within the marketplace through the launch of Vivid with speeds up to 200mbits/sec, so it was important we established a leadership stance in our advertising too.”
