To promote Thomson Weddings, Thomson holidays will let Facebook fans decide the outcome of a couple’s wedding in their new social media campaign. The UK’s first crowd sourced wedding couple will be selected by a panel of judges, who will have their wedding details including music and the bride’s dress crowd sourced by Thomson’s Facebook fans on #WeddingWednesdays.
The big day (with the bride maybe trying not to cry) will take place at the Thomson Platinum Athena Beach Hotel in Cyprus. Flights, transfers, accommodation, all-inclusive board and the wedding breakfast are included in the prize.
As somebody that uses the internet extensively, my main worry is about trolling. What if people make the bride dance to Shaggy? What if she does actually cry? What if enough people vote for a devil themed hen-do and you have to wear those flashing horns? Don’t worry- everything has to be recorded in regular posts on the Thomson blog so we’ll soon find out.
Jeremy Ellis, marketing and digital director for Thomson and First Choice is nothing but positive about the campaign. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our planning expertise in resort, as well as the input of our Facebook users, to make one lucky couple’s wedding dream a reality” he stated.
Do you think this social media campaign will make a couple’s dream wedding a reality? Or do you think a crowd sourced wedding has not existed previously for a good reason? Is this Facebook interaction gone too far? Please let us know @DotRising.
