Retail giant Marks & Spencer has published a teaser video for one of its new Winter fairytale-themed adverts on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, starring model Rosie Huntington-Whitely as Alice in Wonderland, along with a rather cute Scotty dog.
The ads will focus on the company’s “Magic & Sparkle” strapline, which is also being used as a promotional hashtag.
Other British stars joining the cast to act out fairytale scenes, which take inspiration from other stories such as The Wizard of Oz, include model David Gandy and quirky film-star Helena Bonham-Carter.
M&S has announced it will be releasing the full two-minute advert on its Facebook page 48 hours before it is released on television next Wednesday November 6th.
This is the first time the retailer has chosen to show its Christmas ads via social media before they take place on the more traditional media form of TV, and is a strategy that is comparable to rival John Lewis, which has also begun previewing its much talked-about Christmas ads on social media the day before their TV launches.
Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, the executive director of marketing & business development at M&S, commented: “With this year’s ad we wanted to recapture the magical essence of Christmas that our customers tell us is synonymous with M&S.
“Magic & Sparkle is an extraordinary franchise, which has always been a firm favourite with customers. Working with our all British cast, director Johan Renck has created a modern epic where fashion meets fantasy – bringing to life much loved fairy tales with more than a sprinkle of high glamour.”
